I can’t believe the captain of the boat that sank near Tuscany. He left the ship before eveyone else had escaped, then denied that he had, claiming that he was there until the end! He faces 12 years in prison for it, and I think he deserves it, leaving his passengers and crew for dead.
As far as I know up to the point that I am writing this the death toll at present stands at 6, with 17 people missing, 6 crew members and 11 passengers. Everyone else is safe out of the 4,229 people that were aboard. I know people have died but it could have been a lot worse. The captain is very lucky it wasn’t. By the looks of things the ship was off course by miles and he didn’t see it.
If the captain does get off the charges of abandoning ship before everyone else had escaped then it will be a miracle, or even another incident that shows corruption of sorts within the legal systems of today.
I’m glad that so many have survived this ordeal and I hope extensively that the 17 missing are found soon, alive and as well as can be under the circumstances. I also give my condolences to the families of the 6 deceased.
I got most of this information from today’s Daily Mirror, but I had heard of the disaster on Saturday. I waited before posting to see what the developments were, but now that the story is headline news I thought it best to share now.
I’d also like to apologise for any offense I may have caused here. I did not intend to cause any of that. 🙂
